Appeals Procedure

Any institution may appeal an Accredo accreditation decision within 28 days. Appeals are heard in two stages — a review by a senior officer not involved in the original decision, then, if pursued, an independent appeal panel — with the outcome issued in writing.

Grounds for appeal

Appeals may be made on grounds that the process was not followed correctly, that evidence submitted was not taken into account, or that the decision was disproportionate to the findings. Disagreement with a fairly reached judgement is not, by itself, grounds.

The two-stage process

  1. Stage 1 — Internal reviewSubmit the appeal in writing within 28 days of the decision, stating grounds and evidence. A senior Accredo officer uninvolved in the original decision reviews it and responds in writing within 21 days.
  2. Stage 2 — Independent panelIf unresolved, the appeal proceeds to a panel including at least one member independent of Accredo. The panel may uphold, vary, or overturn the decision; its written outcome, normally within 42 days, is final.

During an appeal

An institution's published status remains as decided until the appeal concludes. Appealing never prejudices future applications or reviews.
